Forests provide a broad variety of environmental benefits as they harbour most of the Earth’s terrestrial biodiversity and forest ecosystems have to cope with multiple pressures caused by humans and climate change. MARR’s commitment to contrast deforestation is carried out through multiple practices aimed at anticipating the EUDR regulation, starting from the mapping of products and suppliers potentially associated with deforestation or forest degradation practices, even if uncertainties still remain on the EUDR application starting with the management of the Information System set up by the European Union.
Furthermore, MARR has long implemented active policies on deforestation, offering a list of private label products responding to voluntary sustainability requirements (palm oil absent or RSPO certified - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, cocoa, cocoa butter, cocoa mass and coffee Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance certified or other equivalent certifications, Responsible sourcing). This commitment also extends to packaging through the procurement of material with a lower environmental impact and certified, meaning bought from responsible sources or with growing percentages of recycled raw materials.
